Macaw Mountain Park in Copan is a "Rehabilitation Center" for Macaws, Parrots and other birds. The land on which this park was built used to be inhabited by the Maya people of Copán, and several archaeologists believe that from this place we can see the legendary “Mo witz” or Macaw Mountain. Today it is a bird park with modern amenities that bears the same name.
Macaw Mountain’s latest mission extension is one of outreach. "We are increasingly involved in efforts to restore free-flying populations of macaws and parrots to the Copán valley".
