Mackinac Island settlement goes back to the Great Lakes fur trading of the 1700's. Fort Mackinac, on the island, was estabilished by the British during the American revolutionary war. There were two battles with the British on Mackinac Island during the war of 1812. Today it is a beautiful island of many trails and summer homes.
